Well, it's 'official' folks! My candida is a goner!

After years of suffering from various candida symptoms, including chronic fatigue, numerous vaginal yeast infections, and major mood swings, I am pleased to announce that I am now candida free! Yippee! :)

When I found out I had candida (which basically just put a name to what I'd been experiencing for more years than I can remember!), my initial response was to 'do something about it'. The very first thing I did was change my diet. I had picked up a pamphlet at the local HFS giving all the usual do's and dont's, such as no carbohydrates and no sugar. However, according to the program, it also meant no fruit! Ouchie!

Boy, the hell I went through... Watching Don enjoy his morning carrot-apple juice and fruit smoothie while munching on lightly steamed broccoli and quinoa for breakfast. :(

Thankfully, that didn't last long at all... As you may be aware by now, one of the cornerstones of Don and I's approach is that control does not work in the long run. Simply put, control is an attempt to modify the energetics of a situation with the use of willpower. Because control is going against the natural flow of what wants to happen, it creates conflict which is a waste of energy. Therefore rather than helping, it can only make things worse.

Once it became clear to me that that was exactly what I was doing - controlling which foods went into my body and which didn't - I was able to drop my candida program.

Although my high righ diet of the last several years has greatly helped in effectively AND naturally dealing with this condition, the candida was still there in the background. It would manifest, for instance, with an occasional vaginal infection. Nothing like I used to get, mind you, but there nevertheless...

Since going fully raw last summer, I must say that I had pretty much forgotten about candida altogether. It was just no longer part of my reality.

The subject sort of came up unexpectedly yesterday, as I was telling John, our neighbor, about my present attempt at making kombucha tea. My original interest in KT was actually prompted by candida. However, for some strange reasons, the timing hasn't been right for me to start brewing my own until last week, when someone gave me a culture.

Anyhow, to make a long story short, John spontaneously dowsed about whether I still had candida and if the tea was going to be of some help. As it turns out, all signs of candida have vanished! :D The best part of it is that I didn't have to 'do' anything, really... Raw took care of it! Yay!

Oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, I've decided to try my hand at kombucha tea anyways, as it is supposed to have a number of other health benefits. I'll be sure to keep you posted... :)

Hoorah for Raw! ;-)

Erica,

How do I know the tea is ready? I know they say after so many days and what not but we have it a little cool in our house. I'm thinking it might take longer...

You taste it. You're right. When it's warmer, it ferments faster. Most go about 9 days or so. Some go 30. It's up to you. I'd give it about that if it's cooler...

hey Erica,

Funny you should have posted about kombucha... I was just about to do a report! ;)

I ended up throwing my first batch away. Just decanted my second one a few days ago after something like 13 days. It's really yummy! Fizzy and not too vinegry tasting. Yay! I'm totally stoked! :D
