Protein & Iron Smoothie

This recipe provides 30% of the FDA's daily protein and iron requirement, as well as more than 300% of our vitamin C needs, thus enhancing our body's ability to absorb iron. It is full of fiber and provides 25% of our daily folate requirement. Folate is an important nutrient for pregnant moms. Last, but not least it's creamy and delicious!

Ingredients: (Serves 2)
- 4 cup sliced, strawberries
- 2 large bananas, frozen*
- ¼ cup hemp seeds (more if you love hemp seeds!)
- ½ to 1 cup water
- Agave nectar or honey to taste, depending on the fruits' sweetness

Directions:
- Blend all the ingredients until smooth.

* If using fresh bananas, add a few ice cubes for a cool, refreshing smoothie.

You are so generous with recipes. I made a great green smoothie today with three large collard leaves, 2 cups strawberries and 2 bananas (& about 2 1/2 cups water). I loved it, but some hemp seeds thrown in would have made it even better. And I actually have the seeds on hand! Rats. A missed opportunity. I'll try it with those next time.

I know! Sometimes I forget to add hemp seeds and then I think "Damn! Next time!"

I love the strawberry and banana combo. It makes some of the best smoothies out there.

This reminds me....

Before I left Eugene, OR, I stayed with a good friend of mine and we were doing smoothies in the morning. I made them, because SOMEHOW they came out tasting like vanilla freakin ice cream....just DIVINE!

I used:

the meat and water of 2 young thai coconuts
1 or 2 scoops of Vega meal supplement shake in 'natural'
Like 1/4 cup hemp seeds
some frozen mango, usually, to sweeten it a bit more..
maybe some water

No idea WHY or HOW it came out like vanilla ice cream (the flavor), but it DID. And we were IN LOVE with it!
