Thumbs up Authors of "Required Reading"

What authors &/or books do you feel helped you on your path of growth and Self-Knowledge?

I have recently discovered Jiddu Krishnamurti (thanks to Carmella & Don).

Sorry RVMama, the only book I can think of just now is the KJV of the Bible.

But, lately I was inspired by the movie "The way Home", was very simple, but really well done. Korean film.

In terms of books that have helped to set me on the path I'm on now, as opposed to books that helped to set me on any of the other paths I've followed:

Busting Loose from the Money Game - (so not just about money - truly life changing book)
The Secret Teachings of Plants
Any poem by Hafiz
Illusions - Richard Bach (my favorite book of all time)
The Shamanic Way of the Bee
The Secret Life of Plants, and Secrets of the Soil (these two changed the way I look at the world)
Sunfood Diet Success System (helped to set me on my current path - which is truly phenomenal btw)

and about a hundred others (I'm a librarian, I read a lot :-)

Upanishads

Steven Levine (My fave meditation teacher)

Thich Naht Hanh

Robert Ornstein (I read The Psychology of Consciouness in junior high and it changed my life!)

Alan Watts: The Book (Another one from high school that is so simple., short and right on. It spoke to everything I suspected as a kid, but was told was sacrilege -and punished for-by my catholic community. How can this stuff be wrong??: Kindness to the self- the self meaning all things as we are components of a whole, all incarnations as a facet of a unified god-beingness, life as an elaborate game of hide and seek from the self. Best 75-80 pages a kid could read!!)

Oliver Sacks-

Wayne Dyer (Did a book report on "Your Eroneous Zones" in second grade and was sent to a very worried school counselor, ha ha, How funny is THAT?)

Viktor Frankl: Man's Search for Meaning and all subsequent books

Primo Levi- Survival in Auschwitz

We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We are to be Killed With Our Families (About the genocide in Rwanda)

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (John Perkins)

A Man Called Intrepid (Wm Stevenson)

Pablo Neruda: 2o Love Poem and a Song of Despair- Everything you need to know about love,, sexiness, and romance can be found in a poem by this guy.

Jose Saramago- Blindness

Llosa's "Death In The Andes" and "Feast of the Goat"

Steinbeck "The Moon is Down" (Read it and be reminded of why occupations always fail..."The flies have overcome the fly paper")

The New Testament

The Gnostic Gospels, esp. Thomas.

The Dhammapada

The Bhagavad Gita

The Koran (Haven't read the whole thing, but what I have read has been eye opening. Until you read this, you simply cannot begin to hope to understand Muslim culture and world politics.)

Rumi- Makes me cry with overwhelming love! Beauty!!!

oooooh good question.

My "pivotal life changing books" were all by Sanaya Roman. Living with Joy, Personal Power through awareness, and I also LOVED Creating Money and Soul Love. I couldn't recommend these more.

I also like ...
The 4 agreements
The Power of Now
You Can Heal Your Life

i love reading
