Action: Tell Supermarkets to stock more Fair Trade bananas
from Co-op America
As we reported in March, the Chiquita banana company recently entered a guilty plea with the US government, admitting to charges of transacting with terrorist organizations in Colombia to provide protection for their banana plantations. Chiquita agreed to pay a $25 million fine, but the story isn't finished. Fair Trade offers a just and sustainable way to bring products to market, rather than the Chiquita way. Fair Trade bananas are now available in the U.S., and more than 2,000 Co-op America members have pledged to take action with us to persuade supermarkets to carry more Fair Trade bananas in their stores.
Your joining us to take action will make a huge difference. Sign on to our letter to major supermarkets today, and pledge to take action with your local supermarket to help clean up the banana supply chain.
