The Animal Rescue Thread

I'm not big on making lots of new threads. I guess I'm on a bit of a roll today.

Well, this is another idea I've had for a while. Because every now and then someone comes across a beleaguered bird, a sorry squirrel or some other wayward creature in trouble and in need of a rescue. How to handle them, what to feed them and so forth is all information vital to their rescue. Please be aware that most states outlaw the harboring of certain wild animals.

If you find one, remember this thread and post a PIC if you can. We'll also help you with info/research if you need it. My wife has rescued countless birds like pigeons, crows, sparrows, a parrot, a Western Screech Owl, also a squirrel... I'll put up some photos of them over time.

We currently have rescued a Mourning Dove (which wifey decided to keep) and four feral kittens which we had to trap. What a hilarious scene that was! (PICS posted soon on that one). The above PICS are of the four of them, in cages in one of our bathrooms. They are wild and are just getting adjusted to cohabitation with humans. Still, they are extremely skittish.

This is the mother of these kittens. She was trapped, spayed, then returned to her habitat.

These are wild, feral cats who we have fed on our back wall. I'd rather feed them than see them going in the dumpster and spreading disease. We have a local epidemic. If we got rid of these, other ferels would come in. They occupy this territory.

They often hop over each other to get at the food.

We've had up of five of them on our wall. They were all trapped and spayed, except for one. That's how we got the kittens.

This is the mama. She is the oldest of the bunch. Very wild..

This one was real trouble. Our own cats were getting attacked by this one. We were getting big vet bills. This was a rare feral cat. She even came inside our house and attacked one of our cats in the hallway. One day I went upstairs and caught it in my room! I quickly shut the door. It was frantically climbing up the walls and windows. I had a cat carrier in the room. I turned it on its rear side with the door facing upward. I got two heavy knitted blankets and wrapped them around my arms and hands. The cat was on the window sill. I grabbed her by her back & rump and slam dunked her into the cage. Meanwhile, our own cat, an old tabby, was watching the whole thing unfold, petrified.

This is the Mourning Dove we rescued. I work at the Home Depot. There are dozens of these doves in the building. They have nests up in there. This one was hobbling along on the floor. Something didn't look right. I reached down to help it. It tried to get away but couldn't. I took it home and wifey nursed it back to health. This is a keeper.
