As you may know, Don and I put a great deal of importance on looking for ways to improve RFC. Since we've just implemented some new changes, we thought this might be a good time to address concerns that some of our members have been expressing lately.
Size
There has been some discussion in regards to the size of our forum. It is an undeniable fact that RFC has a large number of forums and sub-forums. One of the main reasons for this is that we envision Raw Freedom Community to be a place where we can not only discuss raw foods, or alternative parenting, or green living, but ALL of the topics that we may have at heart.
By creating RFC, we intended to bring various interests under a single roof, feeling that this would be a more interesting and effective option rather than to have to join a bunch of different forums. As a result, RFC is a rather large forum with many nooks and crannies, and likely to get even bigger. lol
We are, however, always looking for ways to make the navigation easier and more efficient. On First Garden's suggestion, we have lightened up the
Main Forum Index Page's look so that it now contains only the current 6 main sections: RFC- General, Sunny Raw Lifestyle, Raw Freedom Kids, and so on.
Site Name
It has been recently suggested that our site name, Raw Freedom Community, is perhaps not as clear as it could be. As I was just explaining, the purpose of RFC goes much beyond discussing mainly the raw food lifestyle. When we chose the forum's name, we felt strongly and still do, that it reflects accurately the energies and intentions behind it.
Raw refers to the lifestyle of many of our members, including ours. It also highlights the importance of the natural state of all things, unaltered by man.
Freedom refers not only to the condition facilitated by following a healthier lifestyle, but also that to which we all must aspire. It also speaks of how highly we value everyone's sovereignty and the value we give it in dealing with each other.
Community refers to the sense of kinship and connection that gradually builds up amongst individuals. It also speaks of the inherent power of deep cooperation which we feel is essential for success in any endeavor. As has been said: "Together we stand, divided we fall."
Looks
There's also been suggestions in regards to changing the forum's present appearance. We can certainly understand how important it can be for some of you to have a home, be it virtual, that is pleasing to the eyes. However, a couple of points must be taken into account:
1- Limited Resources: RFC's site is run solely on our very humble budget. Also, we have no knowledge of html, graphic design or that sort of thing.
2- Changing the forum's template (or 'skin' as it is called) can be time and energy consuming and/or financially challenging.
If, at some point, someone was knowledgeable about graphic design and was prepared to volunteer their time/energy, we could see how we could possibly get a customized look for RFC. Even in this case, it should be born in mind that it's virtually impossible to find a look that will please everyone, as taste is such a subjective thing.
Having said all this, I went to the site where we got our present template, and have found a few free skins that I thought were interesting. You can now have a choice of 5 additional looks while surfing RFC. To select the one you want, simply go to 'Quick Style Chooser' at the bottom left of any page.
Aside from 'Teguh' which is the present style, you can choose between the following skins:
EvoDove
Evonature
Flora
Ladybird
And
Neocolors
Hope this goes some way to contribute towards the ongoing improvement of RFC.
