the ninja shopper (me cuz i dont blow money) had been stalking a new + cheap but sturdy blender for a couple years , my favorite one was a simple styled salton brand with a 6 speed dial control and a 550 watt motor with a solid cast aluminum base and glass jar at $40 . but 40 was pushin it for that power level so i was stalling to see if a new blender thats cheap but with bigger motor would come out . then today went into my local MEIJERS (great store) and the salton was on a closeout sale for $16 =
CHA CHING !!!!!
so if anyone lives in the midwest by a meijers store ya may wanta check to see if your store is running this price because it aint in papers , and this is a solidly made blender . i'll see if i can come back with a pic off the web of it .
ok i took a digital of it , let me try to download it here .
notice the heavy glass jar , the heavy metal base = this
thing weighs alot . nice and heavy on the countertop means
it wont wobble around when heavily blending . not super powerful at 550 watts but ive used lesser at like 400 , but for $16 bucks with a year warranty i'll power shop it
heck i could buy like 24 of these blenders for the price of a ktec
ya know what i like besides the heavy dutyness of it but that ya cant see in pic because its so metalic / shiny that the flash reflected off it and blurred it out of photo is the simple 6 setting dial control . it dont have all the little
"ugly" ( ) buttons like some other cheaper types .
konmai heres a link to an awesome article at an awesome sight on choosing blenders , i the ninja shopper have read 100's of hours prob over past few years on small appliances and this was my fave article / sight on the topic =
i was just thinking about the CHA CHING term i used above and how bad i hated that cha ching guy in that fast food drive through commercial , he was such a smart #&$ .
also konmai , if your still iffy on a blender choice i'll run down what ive come to see on it .
- the salton i bought was the cheap one i liked
- a decent lookin new one by oster is out around $ 65 , i see that it has an all metal conection from bottom of jar to the motor which i rate a good feature . its called the oster fusion , has nice simple button controls and a like 600 watt motor . and my ma says osters always been good .
- then i was likin the kitchen aid brand ones at around $100 , another ma backed brand .
- then its said the L'EQUIP brand at around $130 is a good step up in power at decent price
- then its up to the monsters of vitamix and ktec at like $325 if you hunt a price . maybe not vitamix that price but i found ktec that low . and theres a site where if you buy 2 items , like say a blender and a juicer you save like $50 on the total . so if someone else was buying something you could buddy up and have the order shipped to individual addresses at no extra cost . i'll bring that site address back to this link .
Maybe a unexpected question, but is PK (horsepower) only related to Watt?
Or does PK also say something else?
Because not all blenders talk about PK, but they all name Watt, so the latter is the easiest to use to compare blenders.

I had to think about that for a second. PK=Pferdekraft (I don't know the Dutch word, so paarden me). It's about 750 W, but there are various definitions, so you can't use it to compare them. Oddly, it was Watt himself who invented the unit.
well ive used the new blender for several smoothies now and am very happy with it , im making smoothies with like water - 2 bananas - pineapple - ice cubes plus a few odds and ends and it whips it right up with no struggle in like 10 - 15 seconds . the lid fits on very tight - the jar fits in the base very tight - the base and glass jar are both very heavy making for a good solid feel . my only complaint is that though the dial speed control is solid its kinda awkward having to turn dial through all the lower speeds to get to the highest (6th) speed , as opposed to push button types where you just go instantly to any speed . but this isnt an important imperfection , just a minor dislike . and ive always owned like around $30 type blenders and this has way more power . like my osterizer $30 would struggle with these smoothies im making and slow down , but this 550 watt salton drives right through this mixture . in conclusion ide prob pay 40 , maybe 45 , for this unit and feel satisfied because of its solid build and solid power . though thats after only less than 10 uses . i'll report back on it in a month or 2 . next report is gonna be over in the new blender thread on the new sears kenmore soon as i get a chance to inspect one . yours truly " the ninja shopper "
