So many of the yummy recipes on this forum call for nuts.
So I am wondering where you all purchase your nuts?
Does anyone buy them online?
Do you go for strictly organic or nonorganic too?
I live in a place that is rather remote and don't get "to town" very often, if ever. I am shopping for special stuff mostly online. I have ordered cashews a couple of times from Sunfood but, MAN, are they ever expensive!
I really love the sauces made from cashews and macadamias because they are so creamy and smooth. Macadamias seem like a problem. Whenever I have bought them, they taste rancid. Cashews are usually good. I know they rarely *truly raw* however.
Well, anyway, I am looking forward to hearing some comments about nuts!
Have a super weekend! The snow is really piling up where I am!
I am most familiar with NutsOnline, but another member (Raw Jewelrylady) seems to prefer Glaser Organic Farms. Let's hope she will come around to chime in with her feedback.
Woohoo! Well here we LOVE us some cashew butter, and we only use Artisana which is organic and specifies that it is low temp, live and RRAWW! So yea, good stuff, cheaper than buying the actual nuts, I have only ever bought one package of Sunfood's cashews as they are expensive and most recipe's just blend the nuts to a cream or butter anyway
I make a picky point of buying the majority of my nuts Really Raw, and all organic Get my almonds (I phoned about the pasteurization thing and they said they have about 6 months worth of really raw ones and after they are gone they are not sure what they will do ), pecans, walnuts, brazils, and yeah, most of my nuts at SunOrganics, get my Dates, and some dried fruit there too.
Get my nut butters at my local Co-op, also available through 2 store portals here (thank you Carmella for adding those, still cheaper at my coop though as there is no shipping )
Man, I have been recommending Sun Organics so much I should buy shares!

Good lord! I paid $14 per pound for organic raw macs and I thought THAT was horribly expensive!
RowanC, You could buy raw macadamia nuts for only $5.99 per pound, but the catch is that 25 pounds of nuts must be purchased at once. Enclosed is the link for your review:
Please note that those nuts are not organic, but at least, they are raw. It is not a bad deal if you can afford to buy them by the case. You would save quite a bit compared to buying them in smaller quantities.
You probably could come up with a similar deal with another vendor closer to your home if you shop around. You can always use the price from NutsOnline as a baseline figure to compare with when striking a deal with someone else.
Organic macs are $24/kg around here so we ordered some from Caromac last summer. They sell their macs for about $5/lb for 5 lb bags, $4.40/lb when you buy 10, and $4/lb for 25 lb boxes. Oh, and they have a free shipping offer right now.
Speaking of which, we're out so I'll be placing a 10 lb order soon. Yay!
The reason why I suggested NutsOnline is macadamia nuts from Caromac are sold out at the moment. I tried getting them based on your suggestion yesterday. It is possible that I didn't use the website correctly but, please click the enclosed link and then scroll down to macadamia nuts:
