how to stop a cough!!!???

I have tried about everything, but I can't get Cooper to stop coughing. I think he has croup. He has had it before, but it has been a long time. I took him in the bathroom with the hot shower running and that worked for a minute. Gave him some Expec cough syrup from the health food store. Ran the personal vaporizor with eucalyptus oil in it. What else can I try?????
Thanks

Stopped mine (mild one) today with carrot soup - the one with the carrot juice, ginger, garlic, curry and avocado? and drinking lots of water.

My son was having a cold and a cough and there is a homeopathic remedy I learned about called Umcka that I get at my local HFS. My son was really sick and it helped him - he still has a mild cough but that is because he only took this 2X (he hates medicine) and you are supposed to take it 3 to 5X a day and then for 48 more hours after symptoms subside. It is a Zulu traditional medicine from South Africa and it really does work quickly.

However on the package it says for children under 6 to consult a doctor. It only says directions for children 6 and older. Personally I would have still given it to my son even if he was under 6. . . but maybe if he was 2 or 3 I would question. I no longer remember how old yours is.

He is 6. He's doing better this morning. His cough sounds more productive, not so tight and wheezy. He is really picky and won't try anything so that makes it hard. When i get the feeling of a cold coming on I drink Apple Cider Vinegar and it's gone!

Honey and Lemon

Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of lemon.
Give it to him by the teaspoonsful.
It will calm a cough and sooth his throat.

HA! I recently saw that in a study, plain ol' honey beat cough suppressant in its efficacy!

The lemon and honey is a great standard! I also find it helpful to massage in little circles on the sternum...starting at the top and moving down gently- imagine you are moving the chi down the chest, as thought subduing it.

Eucalyptus oil is great for breaking up congestion...and rosemary is awesome...not so harsh, powerful antibacterial properties. For a child, I might put some in very hot water, then have the child lean over the bowl of water and cover his head in a "towel tent" so the oil would be inhaled in the steam. Very very soothing!

Coffee of tea will also act as an expectorant...breaking up mucus in the chest so it can be expelled. This is when a strong cough is good....gotta get that stuff out!

At that stage, forming the hands into 2 "cups" and then gently tapping/pounding on the back over the lung area will break up phlegm. Cystic Fibrosis patients would be familiar with this.

Hey thanks everybody for you examples of remedies. I have an adult friend of mine who's been couching for a week now. She'll be liking the honey addition to the lemons.

cough

My little one had a small cough and here is what my midwifes have recommended and it is working:
1/4 cup water
1 tb sp. organic cranberry concentrate
30 drops of lobelia
Mix it together until mixed will.
1/4-1/2 tea sp every 3 hrs.
This is for an infant maybe stronger mixture for bigger kids. Ask at the store which lobelia is better for your kiddo
Good luck
Let us know if it helped at all

I have my kids drink Chamomile tea for coughing. It will help stop the spasms in the bronchials and also help them sleep. So it's great to take before bedtime when sick!
Also, I agree with everyone else...tried and true...lemon with honey, it truly does help sore throats.
Hope your son is feeling better soon.

yep, peppermint tea with honey and lemon.

i was diagnosed with bronchitis and was coughing my brains out. the doc gave me three different scripts.

i asked the people on a raw food forum for advice cause i did not want to get the meds. they told me to sautee button mushrooms. the people who recommended it were fussed at for recommending cooked, but it worked. i ate them for dinner and slept like a baby. since then i've recommended it to others, and it has worked for them also. i don't remember why it works, and i can't find the thread.

When all else fails pulsatilla will break up the mucus. You can pick up Boiron's homeopathic pellets at your local health food store.
