Good news is great news :)

Well 2 things have happened this past week that I'm totally stoked about.

On Monday the children all decided they were giving up meats *cheers* They've gone 4 days without and the house smells so much better with out all that cooked flesh stinking it up.

Today we finally got the excalibur dehydrator with all the little extras. We're going to try to make some apple cookies and banana cookies Even the children are excited about the raw cookie recipe book and are checking what to make next

My son, the carnivore is actually trying to figure out how to "learn to like" eating salads and veggie wraps *dances*.

One question I have, does anyone know an affordable place to get extra teflex (no stick) sheets for the excalibur? I didn't know my wife would want enough for all 9 trays and didn't order any extra.

Is there something at a hardware store or walmart like cutting sheets, etc. that I can buy?

Thanks.

You may be able to find plastic cutting trays at your grocery or someplace like Linens'n'Things or Bed Bath & Beyond that you could cut to size.

I have used waxed paper and seran wrap successfully when I needed it. I have the four tray excalibur and only two teflex sheets. The seran wrap can be a little more of a hassel to get it wrapped over the mesh -- you know how it likes to stick to itself -- but if you don't mind putting up with that little hassle, it will work just fine

Congratulations on getting the kids to try the change in diet. That's so great! Wish I could convince my 14 yr old to give up meat.

Thanks, Mine is 16 yrs old. I hate to say it but peer pressure actually worked to do a good thing this time. We associate with other families who juggle and some of the families we visit often are virtually free of animal products. Several of the boys have been ribbing him for his addiction to sweets and meats.

Usually peer pressure works negatively but this time it's having a good effect.

I thought about the cutting boards, I think they're teflon. My wife was worried they'd melt in the dehydrator though. I told her as long as we don't raise the temp up over 110 I think they'll work just fine.

Parchment?

Has anyone tried using parchment paper instead of teflex? You can usually get it in long rolls in the bakery dept?

These are great news, Flanny. Woo-Hoo!

I used parchment paper before I got the teflex sheets. They worked well although there really is no comparison with how efficient the teflex sheets are.

As for a cheap source of teflex sheets, have a look at the Raw Food World here. Last time I checked, they were offering them for $6.50 a piece.

Hey Flanny, this is a great news! Your boy will notice so many amazing changes in his life as a vegetarian/vegan, that he won't even think of eating meat again I'm sure.

I found Teflex sheets for only $6.00 if you buy minimum 6, here:

I would recommend getting the teflex sheets; it's so easy and you won't have to get them later and spend extra $$$

Thanks all. Cyn agrees with you. She wants the sheets and not a substitute. I guess I'll be trying to ramp up ebay sales .

These links are all pretty much cheaper than excalibur's prices so thank you

Congrats Flanny, thats really exciting about your kids! Just a matter of time with these things, I guess.

I've used parchment while using a friend's D - it did work, although I found it to be challening when things needed to be spread evenly on the sheet surface. It's best for cookies, or burgers...individual things, rather than bread/crackers.
