skin

I was walking from one class to another and the gal from the computer room comes up to me.
"Your skin is really pretty! What do you do?"
"I think it's what I eat."
"You eat a lot of raw vegetables, right?"
"Yup", I answered, and talked about avocados, the most likely culprit.

hmm,
I notice most rawbies have that glow, some more than others. Is it just internal or are there certain skin products used as well?
newly raw!

I use jojoba oil on my hair, and some rubs off on my hands. But I don't think enough gets on my face to make a difference.

Welcome to raw!

Welcome on board vitak72!

I've often received comments re: my skin and hair and the clarity of my eyes. For my part, it's a result of changing my diet and lifestyle. I only use a little cream on my face in the winter, when it gets so dry with the woodstove and all.

Oh, and my skin got even soften and clearer since I've been doing oil pulling. An amazingly simple yet effective technique. Read more about it here.

BTW Carmella,
Your recipes have been so inspiring and helpful to me as a newbie. I just want to thank you and the sunny raw kitchen.
When you get a minute, no rush, as you can see, its been days since I've responded. But is there a product list or thread somewhere for skin, hair that the rawbies use? I see the supplements(superfoods) but what are people using for moisturizers, makeup, toiletries, hair?
Got Jojoba and love it!

I got my first comment today regarding the "glow." I admit I look in the mirrow everyday and dont notice any glow. But a woman at work came to deliver something to me today and she asked if I had a minute to talk. She said she had seen me around the campus and noticed I looked slimmer and my skin looked nice and my eyes looked brighter. She said there is a noticeable energy about me. she asked if I was doing anything different.

I was surprised since I wore no make up today and I haven't noticed any glow. But I was glad to hear it. I told her about eating raw food. She loves to cook and definitely eats more whole foods than most people. She want's me to send her the names of the cookbooks I have. I happened to have some zucchini crackers with me, so I have her one and she loved it.

In the summer, when my garden was overflowing with greens and I would eat about 4 ounces of both blended and in salad greens, I definitely noticed a glow... It significantly decreased since I reduced my intake of greens, but I still have almost flawless skin, which says a lot because I had acne well into my twenties!

One of my motivations in transitioning into a primarily raw diet was to improve my skin. I have had acne that has worsened in the past few years, even though I am in my 30s. I like to call it my second adolescence (although my skin was quite fine in my teens). I have also had to deal with occasional bouts of eczema throughout my life (which are painfully annoying), and I live in a very dry climate that makes my skin completely abrasive in the winters.

I have included raw foods in my diet for several years now, but never went all the way. I've been eating almost all raw for about a month now, and am happy to report that I've already noticed considerable improvement in my skin. My face has definitely improved, and I didn't experience any "monthly" breakouts during this cycle. My hands and legs are nowhere near as itchy and dry as I would expect them to be this time of year, even though I haven't been slathering them with lotion. I'll call it a very significant improvement.

I added an MSM supplement starting this morning, so I'm hoping that will add to my success. In a few days, I will also have a Blendtec, and can't wait to start my day with delicious fruity kale drinks!

I've been silently soaking up this forum for a few weeks now, and it has been a great source of inspiration and support for me!

Velvet, interesting about the greens. I have been taking in more greens lately. I just can't seem to get enough kale. I crave it and have been throwing some leaves into my smoothies. This week I didn't make my kale salad, so maybe i better get on that.

Welcome, Bergamot. I suffer from eczema and painfully chronic dry skin. I haven't seen a huge amount of improvement yet. But I'll be patient. I have tried the MSM. I'm back on aloe again.

I'm gonna make a big bowl of kale salad tonite. That may be the key. But on a huge positive note that I CAN definitely see, I am back into all my favorite jeans again. And that is definitely something to make me smile..
