Saving money on organic produce

Hi all! Since organic produce can be a bit pricey sometimes, I found a way to save by creating a food buying group and splitting cases. The savings are quite huge!
Here's my post about it. Let me know if you decide to do it, I'll be happy to help!

Hi Velvet! Your blog post is really inspiring. I completely agree -- I don't mind paying extra sometimes for organic (I like to think the extra money is going somewhere useful, even if it's just for the ethereal idea of "supporting organic"), but sometimes it is just not monetarily feasible.

Definitely food for thought (ha ha). Thanks!

I was actually planning on doing the same thing here in Minneapolis when I first moved here. But then I couldn't personally find enough people who were interested, and eventually I got into finding free food instead. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to feed my cats for cheap or free, though.

Say, how much does a case of young coconuts cost when you buy direct?

Thanks Cassie! Same with me

Violin Guy, each coconut ends up costing me $1.97, which I know is expensive to some people out west, but here, the minimum I can get them for is $2, and I have to drive a while to get to the store. Plus, they don't always have them, and sometimes, they're more expensive.
So, it's a good deal for me, at least.

So far, I only found 4 people who are interested, but I'm trying to spread the word. Really, it's not difficult to reach $400 when you're into raw, so it wasn't too big a deal for me. The only problem is keeping everything at my house while people come and pick stuff up. My fridge couldn't contain everything! But in the winter, my basement is pretty cool, so I can keep everything down there for a few hours.

Violin Guy, I buy from Albert's Organics. They're very nice. When they set up an account for me, I said that I would pay the driver right away, so I didn't have to provide names of people who gave me credit in the past (or something like that). I entered myself and my husband as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for the club and they were fine with it. They're located in Minnesota.
