Question about hard-to-digest veggies

My digestion is going through a re-coop stage (or something ), and I've been having a difficult time digesting some raw veggies (carrots, broccoli..). I am wondering if you think it would be better to abstain from them and get almost no veggies, or to lightly steam them for the time being to make them more digestible & eat them with digestive enzymes (which I do, anyway, when they're raw, but they are still hard to digest for some reason) even though lightly steaming isn't raw?

The broccoli is really good to fill in the gaps nutritionally my previous fruitish-based diet was leaving..and I feel worn out from all the sugar in the fruits I've been eating..my taste buds want a break .. but the raw veggies are hurtin my tum?

Confused

If eating raw veggies make you feel bad in your tum and lightly steaming them does not, then by all means do that. Having knowledge is not enough if one does not apply it. Applying it is wisdom.

I would rather you steam them than to get almost no veggies as you stated.

Many of us here took a long route to being raw, it does not matter where you are, even if you are only raw in the mind *as in you plan to* but not quite so in the diet.... that is a good seed planted *turning to wyjoz, now you know what I mean by preaching? *.

Nothing you do is right nor wrong, it is the current state of where you are ready in your mind and body that will allow you to evolve.

Remember, every body is different, what works for others may not work for you, you have to find your path. We are here to give you individual suggestions and ultimately, you make your choice towards making you feel good

Have no fear my dear friend, over here you will not be kicked in the butt just because you post... 'lightly steam' your veggies even 'for the time being' in the same sentence and over here, it is about freedom and yes, the path towards being raw.

And don't forget to eatyourbroccoli

Excellent post. I couldn't agree more. Do what you are comfortable with so long as it helps you to stay healthy and head towards raw.

I was wondering if you notice the same difficulty in digesting regardless of whether you use them in smoothies or juices. Blending them makes them more digestible for me.. like a yummy carrot juice blended with red pepper and garlic and spices for soup or a blended broccoli soup...

Best to you...

If I were in your shoes I would probably just stay away from the ones I found hard to digest and I would just do more green smoothies.

I would eat the lightly steamed veggies. I find them not only to be very digestible, but also quite grounding. I'm including them for the time being while I get my health back too. I know at some point i'll be able to enjoy all that stuff raw, but for now this is working for me

I wonder if you steam lightly, so the center is stil crunchy and more or less raw...could you still preserve some of the active enzymes? I have to marinate mine to soften them..and sometimes even warm in the de-hy at a high temp (since the water keeps the actual food temp down for awhile) briefly. Otherwise it makes for a tooty night.

If raw food is all about listening to our bods...let's go with that idea as the foundation. If you body wants a little steam...listen to it. You've been at it long enough to know what a need feels like versus a craving. Trust **you.**
